Rapid Manufacturing (RM)Rapid Manufacturing (RM) uses additive fabrication technology (such as SLS) to directly produce useable products or parts. Primary advantage is the cost-saving that arises from elimination of tooling. This also eliminates inventory stockpiling allowing true ‘on demand’ production. RM gives almost unrestricted geometric freedom. It is possible to produce batches of complex components in a short time-frame. This enables companies to release limited-run products, produce pre-production samples and perform field testing. Another advantage gained from RM is the ability to customize products on the fly. Products can be manufactured in exact quantities; varied designs can be produced at the same time; production batches can be customised each time.
